Thu, 16 November 2006 Hey there, and happy upcoming holiday season. Because of that the next few episodes will be holiday themes, beginning with this one which is aimed at Thanksgiving. Some of the songs are actual Thanksgiving songs, while others just have the word thank or thanks in the title, and at the end there is a kind of random Thanksgiving food selection guaranteed to make you hunrgy. Tue, 7 November 2006 This week's theme is a sister episode to 7/18/06's For The Birds episode, which means it also contains some flashback elements from the original 12/16/99 Birds theme. Flashback songs are marked with an *. I put in as many birds as I could think of, except of course the turkey, who will obviously make a guest appearance in 11/21/06's Thaksgiving theme. Tue, 10 October 2006 It's that time of year again, when we encourage little children to dress up in costumes and shamelessly go door-to-door begging for sugary snacks that will rot their teeth. In honour of this hallowed occasion (pun intended) this episode of the cast features songs with names of various treats (chocolate, gum, lollipop) as well as songs with the word candy or sugar in them. Tue, 26 September 2006 The Theme Show is back from her foray into plundering the seven seas, and like any pirate worth her salt, Ishtar has brought back plenty of booty! This week's cast features songs with the word gold in the titles (this includes the word golden as well). If you want to hear that Kanye West song, best go look somewhere else. It did end up being a little James Bond heavy, but James Bond is cool. Mon, 31 July 2006 This podcast features songs which for the most part wouldn't ever be covered in most other categories. Basically the titles of all the songs in the cast are comprised mainly of nonsense and made-up words. I actually had to cut a few that I wanted to put in for time contraints, due to the presence of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly. I just couldn't bring myself to put in the radio edit, it made no sense to me to put a version of a song famous for being one of the first recorded drum solos, and then put a version that doesn't even have the solo in it, so hopefully you all like this song; as I have put in the unedited 17 minute version. Look for the songs I decided to leave out someday in a future cast, Son Of Utter Nonsense... maybe. Wed, 19 July 2006 Welcome to another Flashback Edition of the Theme Show. The Birds theme was originally broadcast December 16, 1999. I reworked it a little again, sticking only to songs which had bird in the titles. Sorry, this is about a day late. The joke is that I own all the CD's yet for some reason I was hard pressed to find a copy of Free Bird and apparently I need to buy a 3rd copy of The White Album because it's missing... again (instead I had to put a cover.. I felt bad replacing the Beatles, but it turned out the cover was a nice pick me up for the set). So yeah, for some reason 75% of songs about birds are mellow, so this is a really subdued set. Also for those of you that remember from way back the Theme Shows all used to end in an Obligatory Polka, in this case I left it in (sort of). Songs which appeared in the original cast, designated with an *. Sat, 1 July 2006 OK, I know I said BI-weekly. :-) But I realized I probably should have started off the show with this cast instead of Space Is The Place, since it makes no sense to have it available AFTER the holiday! DUH! DUH! DUH! Anyways; if you're looking for a nice fluffy happy Forth of July soundtrack with America the Beautiful and God Bless America, then this is not your mix. Either that or just skip over everything and go to the last track. The mix gets a bit sarchastic and un-patriotic, but I end it on an ironic note with God Bless The U.S.A. because well while we may have our issues, at least I still have the freedom to play these somewhat un-patriotic songs without going to the stockades, or worse! Tue, 27 June 2006 How do I listen? You can listen directly using the music player available directly on the website http://ishtarandromeda.libsyn.com. It's on the upper right hand corner of the screen. Change episodes by using the left or right buttons. Fast forward or rewind an episode by moving the slider. What if I want to download the file? You can download the file directly at both the top and bottom of each episode. Using a PC: right-click, save target as on either the "Pod" symbol at the top of each episode or the name of the file next to the words "direct download" at the bottom of the page. Using a MAC: using a 2-button mouse, cursor over the "pod" or filename (using the same criteria as the above Windows instructions), right-click, download linked file. Or if you do not have the 2-button mouse, put the cursor on the link for the MP3 then press the "control" button and click the mouse. What's this about a subscription? You can subscribe to the podcast, so you will be notified when new episodes appear. You can subscribe directly via the RSS page at http://ishtarandromeda.libsyn.com/rss and clicking at the top where it sys "subscribe to this feed". You can type the address mentioned above into your favorite podcast playing software:(http://www.podcastingnews.com/topics/Podcast_Software.html). Lastly the Theme Show is proud to be featured on iTunes, to subscribe through iTunes go to this link: http://phobos.apple.com Will it work on my music player? Yes. Once you have saved the file, open it in whichever software you use to move music onto your mp3 player or what have you. Why does downloading the file take so long? The first and most important thing to remember is to be patient. These are High Quality MP3 files approximately 1 Hour and 15 minutes in length. This translates to between 65 and 75 MB of information that needs to be transferred to your computer. This can seem excruciatingly slow, especially if you are on dial-up. Hopefully if I have done my job correctly however, the wait will be worth it. Once you click the file, you should see a little symbol in the lower left hand corner of your browser that looks like a little hard drive. As long as you see this symbol, your feed IS downloading, and you do not need to click anything again. Clicking over and over, definately does not make it go any faster, in fact it makes it slower as it has to begin downloading from the beginning. Can you send me such-and-such song? Though I now have two episodes featuring "Pirates" I do not condone stealing music. If I do not have the song I am looking for, I pay for it, and I expect you to do the same. Please do not mail me asking me for songs. You may however politely e-mail me and ask me where you can find a song and I will be sure to direct you to the proper place where you can buy the album or the track, or the band's Website/ MySpace etc. when it is not out as a major release. On the extremely rare occasion that you have asked me about a song that I know is absolutely out of print and that CD copies are rare and hard to find, I may consider sending you a low-quality copy. Anything else I should know? Just three more things, I am currently working on two projected related to the show. The first is adding time stamps to the posts, so if you only want to hear a cretain song you just have to forward your player to the appropriate timestamp to hear the song. The second is the lisenter map. It is a painstaking process to be sure, but I am trying to map my listeners so you can all see where one another come from. Thirdly you should know, in case you don't want to subscribe that there is also a mailing list. To get on the mailing list please send a e-mail to me ishtarandromeda@gmail.com with the subject "Theme Show" and the Body "Add Me". Similarly to be removed from the list send the same address and subject with the body "Remove Me". Category: general -- posted at: 7:57 PM Comments[2] |
Tue, 27 June 2006 This is a Flashback Edition of the first cast from 12/02/1999. Back then it was simply entitled Space and didn't really stick to the theme as it jumped around from space to stars to planets (which will now be featured later in thier own casts). Tue, 27 June 2006 Welcome to "The Theme Show". I'll try to keep it as quick and to-the point as possible for now. "The Theme Show" originally aired as a shoutcast on December 2, 1999. It played from 9 PM-11PM EST each week until January 27, 2000. Due to financial problems, I had to get a second job and could no longer do the show. I recently discovered podcasting as a great way to get my show back out there again. I decided to do the show bi-weekly instead due to both time and money constraints. I feel that this is a much better venue than shoutcasting used to be, as it doesn't require listeners to tune in at any specific time period, making the shows much more user friendly for you the listener, and also good for me, because hopefully I can reach at least a few more people than I used to (the max listeners at one time for the original Theme Show was only 13, because bandwidth would not allow more). So what's the point, I tried to make it obvious in the description, but basically every other week I pick a theme for the show. For example the flagship episode titled "Space is the Place" will feature all songs which have "Space" in the title. For example "I'm the Urban Spaceman" by Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, "Space Oddity" by David Bowie, and "Space Age Love Song" by Eleven Shadows (a cover of the Flock of Seagulls Tune). Styles vary as I have a bit of an eclectic range. Music can be any of the following: pop, glam, metal, electronica, children's, disco, new wave, comedy skits, parodies, and occasionally rap, country or classical/instrumental. So much like the weather here in Category: general -- posted at: 7:59 AM Comments[0] |
